The West Virginia University Ski Team is a club sport at WVU that started in 1982. The club consists of both a men’s and women’s team, which are each made up of both an A and B team that compete in the Allegheny Conference of the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA).
The top 5 men and women are placed on the A team and all the remaining individuals make up the B team. Every member of our team is given the opportunity to race each week whether it is in slalom or GS (giant slalom). We have an optional practice from 6-8pm Wednesday nights at the WISP Resort in McHenry, MD that is run by volunteer coach Thaddeus Janus, former alpine ski racer and current Senior Ski Patroller.
The regular season is 6 weeks long and takes place almost every weekend with the races starting at approximately 9am both Saturday and Sunday. The Regional Championships and National Championships take place near the end of February and early March. We finish the season off with an end of the semester party held at the Sports Page, which all ski team alumni are invited to.
